29 September (98) You can also read some bits on the new album at Addicted To Noise if you put in a search for Flaming Lips and go to the article dated today. me Some interesting stuff here. The album is now scheduled for the first quarter of 1999. The article also (innacurately) briefly covers the compilation (see below).
29 September (98) Unfortunately, the Restless compilation "1984-1990" is not yet available. It will be out on October 13th. Scott Booker The usual industry bollocks, sadly.... Meantime, the band is back at Tarbox Road - latest tentative titles are "Sleeping On The Roof", "Gash", "Battle Hymn For The Wounded Mathematician."

9 July (98) "unfortunately, due to technical problems, water damage and unforseen problems with management and school officials, i will not be able to broadcast ZAIREEKA! over the internet. my apologies go out to all of you looking forward to this broadcast, but these problems were beyond my control. when (or if) we get our website up and running, i shall make it known to all." 8 July (98) The release date is set for the Restless compilation: September 29th. Title is "The Flaming Lips 1984-1990" but it's also got a groovy pre-title: "A Collection of Songs Representing an Enthusiasm for Recording... by Amateurs" Scott Booker This has great sleeve notes with all sorts of little insights into the band's history. 7 July (98) Michael Ivins is getting married to long-time girlfriend Catherine on September 19th. If anyone wants to send well-wishes then send em to the P.O. 4 July (98) It looks as if the band might colloborate with Robert Plant on a track for a Skip Spence tribute record. A friend of the band is doing a tribute record and wants them to record a song. Well, it turns out Robert Plant is a huge Skip Spence fan, blah, blah, blah, etc. etc. Scott Booker Skip Spence was the lead singer of Moby Grape - he went crazy and released one solo album called OAR. The plan is to remake the whole album with different artists doing each track!
3 July (98) The band have returned from the studio, with a new song "What Is The Light" and some other material worked on. They also did a couple of remixes: Penguin Noise and Citizen King. Scott Booker Things are moving and it's all looking good....
30 June (98) The Lips recently met up with Robert Plant while he was touring. Of course, the Lips were once renowned (in the late 80s) for playing Led Zeppelin covers live - indeed Thank You appears on the forthcoming Restless compilation. Scott Booker Michael Krugman (writes for Raygun, amongst other things) thought it would be fun to get them to meet up, so he sorted it out. We'll be featuring some photos soon....

18 June (98) Kim's Watermelon Gun is indeed in the Miller Genuine Draft commercial... for a three month run. Scott Booker Warner Special Products arranges these things.. the band are fairly amused really.

18 May (98) Completely amazing show at the Forum on Saturday - pop stars "having a school experience", as Tim Gane of Stereolab put it... pictures will be forthcoming but you'll have to make do with the review in the meantime. Drew Full photos/reviews of this and other shows are coming with some refinements to the boombox menu. Watch out for some giving away of a few of the smart handouts, for those of you who didn't get to be there...

8 May (98) Hello... I've found out a good way to get 4 cd players for "Zaireeka"- just go to a store that has cd players on display & use those! Me & my friend Zac did it in Target and the people who worked there didn't mind. They just asked us to turn it down once. justin Not the first suggestion for this... Walmart have been quite tolerant too, apparently...
7 May (98) For those that missed it, there was an interesting interview with Wayne on Xfm in London tonight. Keith Cameron spoke to Wayne about allsorts of stuff (including the wonders of modern telecommunications) before Wayne set a question for a competition to win a guarranteed place in the Boombox Orchestra next week Drew Might see about asking KC if we can transcript it...

17 April (98) My name is Scott and I am program director and host of "in thee eclipse" broadcast mondays, 3-6 pm on 91.7 WLFR, in pomona. I am planning an event that you might be interested in. This summer (the exact date is unsure) I plan to broadcast "Zaireeka" in it's entirety over the airwaves. Not only can it be heard on the radio, but by the time this takes place, we will be on Real Audio. 6 April (98) The new album might not even be out this year... they are going back to do more... Big Ole Bug. is the only song that is definitely going to be mixed down on it.. others may come later as they do the record... Brian Brian had a chat with Wayne the other day.. interesting stuff eh? Patience, people.. I hear the album may be out in the fall (autumn to us brits) and also the word is that Steven may not continue working on Kim Deal's project after all..... Watch the site for some proper stuff on the Boombox Concerts and some extra bits on playing Zaireeka for yourself. Photos and everything (thanks Anne) - all in the next week. Probably.
