produced by The Flaming Lips and Dave Fridmann

Self financed and made to get the fledgling band gigs, this features Mark Coyne on vocals - before he left to be more married. It was released on 1,000 copies of green vinyl before being repressed on various colours for subsequent runs.

First track Bagful Of Thoughts is a classic Lips song even at this very early (1984) stage. It's so laid back but groovy and free all at once with Wayne making an early experiment with feedback on the guitar. The rest of the EP is more patchy but still shows flashes of brilliance - the effects fetish was present then with Mike using a flanger turned nearly to full for just about the whole of the record. My Own Planet is cool too - although the taking turns to solo is a little bit too much... Scratchin The Door is pretty crazy and takes the gag of fading the song down and back up again to a typical Lips extreme.

Really, it's no surprise that they got noticed and people were excited by their gigs. This EP shows that the Flaming Lips have only ever made music on their own terms, and always ended up not quite of their time as a result.
