Scott Booker is the Flaming Lips manager, and has been officially since around about 1991. It's kind of hard to
say exactly when he became their manager because he landed the job by default.... Back when they
were in the process of their original signing to Warners, Scott would go along and do the talking while
the band sat quietly smoking cigarettes (well, that's sorta how it happened..) After Scott was asked,
"So, are you the manager then?" for the nth time, it kind of ended up that he was!
These days, Scott manages a whole bunch of people, he's released records on his own label - Fantastick
Records (Glue and Submarine albums), and he's still he keeper of Oklahoma's finest. Booker has been known to claim that he could retire from management tomorrow and be ever happy in the knowledge that he talked the one of the world's most powerful record companies into releasing a simultaneous playing 4 cd album for under $30. A project that translates to most execs as commercial suicide, whereas the rest of us know better....
