I guess so, but I reckon they must be about ready for a rest after the efforts to get Zaireeka made and out there...
16 November (97) People are having Zaireeka parties around the country. Clubs are having a night where people play Zaireeka on 4 stereos - it's really great. Scott Booker It's happening all over! Anyone who wants to publicise such an event here, let me know..

To get the full effect of the album, listeners have to play the set's four CDs at the same time. " full report on Addicted To Noise
Bull Schanen The news here is in the number... 15,000 ??? Not the 5,000 you've heard talked about... well, I know the band wanted more than 5,000 and this was set as a first print run - it looks like Warners may be gearing to press some more copies for those getting turned on to the idea of Zaireeka.
30 October (97) Addicted To Noise Senior Writer Gil Kaufman reports: In a new spin on the old James Brown plea to "give the drummer some," an album due out this summer aims to give a gang of alternative rock drummers their due. Called Flyin' Traps, the instrumental percussion record on Hollywood Records features ex-Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron on a self-penned tune called "Theme From Holy-O," the Flaming Lips' Steven Drozd playing his composition "Headphones Theme From Seemingly Infinity," Porno For Pyros' Stephen Perkins doing his tune "Monkey in Brazil," ....... In the liner notes to the collection, Modern Drummer magazine Assistant Editor Adam Budofsky, says of the contributions, "I'd wager that even listeners who recognize the names of the drummers on Flyin' Traps will be pretty surprised by the diverse and mesmerizing sounds they discover here. The full spectrum not only of drumming, but of musical expression is represented, from Barrett Martin's squelchy urban jungle, to Stephen Drozd's cosmic sonic space voyage, ........" Scott Traffas Cool huh? thanks Scott... by the way, having seen Stephen Perkins' name, did you know Dave Fridmann is producing the new Jane's Addiction stuff?
30 October (97) "i found an old article at atn talking about the lips teaming up with angelo badalanenti (who provided the music for david lynch's twin peaks) for a spoken word album that is coming out next year." here is the url: Scott Traffas As Scott says,"Should be an interesting collaboration."
22 October (97) Well, it's about time I filled you in.. so here's some blurb on Zaireeka yours truly Don't forget, not every record shop may carry this, so place your order NOW!
21 October (97) 'The Lips are thanked in the notes to the Counting Crows second album, "Recovering The Satellites"... apparently, the Crow's lead singer/song writer is a big fan. Also, Ben Folds Five cover "She Don't Use Jelly" on the new compilation album "Lounge-A-Palooza"... I haven't heard it yet, but it'll be pretty different... there isn't a guitar player in BFF, just piano, bass and drums..' Mark Beissel There y'go... some non Zaireeka news for a change...
18 October (97) "There will be a Zaireeka listening party in Norman, OK on the 27th. Shadowplay (www.shadowplay.com) will be running 4 cd players with speakers running outside. CDS 1 and 3 will be played on the main store systems and 2 and 4 will be my ghetto blasters. No word if the Lips will show up or not. Sinople Well, that's cool if you live in Oklahoma.. if not, did you order a copy yet? If not maybe you want to do so through cdnow ?
24 September (97) "I work in a record store and I read that Zaireeka! will be out on Oct. 21, a limited release of 5,000" Mike McCall The date is now Oct 28th. You should place an advance order with your local record shop anyway - you have to make SURE you get a hold of this one as I think 5,000 copies will NOT result in one in every store in the US. I don't even know if it is being released in any other countries. Ordering should guarrantee you a copy (if there's enough to go round) and then you'll get it straight away when it comes out.
23 September (97) This is from Rolling Stone, Oct. 2 1997: "The future of rock has been found, and it is the Flaming Lips. The wacky Oklahoma band's new album, Zaireeka, which is due out on Oct. 28, is actually a box set of four CDs designed to be played simultaneously, creating a wall of sound. 'It actually works!' says lead Lip Wayne Coyne.
'Music is so boring now that we thought we'd try to do something to make it more interesting. Hopefully it will be interesting to more people than just us.'
The Lips will have a conventional album out next year."
Mathew Ryckman Cool huh? Note the revised release date. Why does everyone always say 'wacky' when they talk about the lips? I'd like to make a plaster model of the word wacky and shove it where the sun don't shine the next time someone uses it so wantonly...
17 September (97) You can now get a pdf file of the promotional postcard for Zaireeka... (if I've done that properly). Of course, it's entirely possible that this isn't right so if you have any problems in downloading this pdf beauty, mail me and I'll send it to you directly - oh, you need Acrobat Reader to look at it. (the very kind) George Err, yes sorry about all this slackness (re: page maintenance). I'll be getting my very own computer as soon as the loan comes through and then things will look up and you might even be impressed.
16 September (97) This page will now be updated again!! Sorry for the service interruptions but I've been on holiday.... I'll insert an update, on what I know, as a link- it's simple that way.. Okay, recent lips happenings: Me If you mailed me between July 21st and August 31st then I've lost your mail (or rather it got deleted in my absence...) so sorry! Please do contact me again. That means you Scottie Z!
9 September (97) A band called the Elevator Drops are going to be touring high schools on the East coast with the Flaming Lips. Kitty Bates, quoting David Baker (as in ex-Mercury Rev geezer) No idea how correct this is - I do know that (apparently) Wayne talked about doing a getto blaster version of the parking lot experiment on some sort of lecture tour - so maybe this is it????
31 August (97) According to internet magazine, Addicted To Noise, the new album will be called 'Zaireeka'. It comes out on October 21st Mark Beissel Apparently, the album is so titled because it's a combination of the words Zaire and Eureka, one being a very dry place and one being a water company. That's what I was told anyway......
3 June (97) Some solid news on album content. The 4cd set will be out in September, as previously stated. It will be priced in the $20-$30 range (exact price tbc). This release will be followed by a conventional album in January/February time. This will feature (probablly) two songs the same, but mixed down to standard stereo and a whole load of new songs not on the 4cd set. Scott Booker Cool huh? Two sets of new lips songs in 6 months!
