Turn It On (US cd)

Warner Bros. Records, 1995

1. Turn It On. From the album Transmissions From The Satellite Heart
2. Put The Waterbug In The Policeman's Ear. Ghetto blaster recording at the art school, Sept '93
3. She Don't Use Jelly. Demo version

The song that was the logical choice for a single from the first album from the half new super cohesive Flaming Lips. It's so utterly radio friendly and singable and cool. A monster riff is sat alongside with the beautifully simplistic chord sequence and it can't really be faulted. Fantastic singalong chorus, but my guess is that radio tended to fade the noise solo at the end though!! (shame on them)
The b-sides on here are also on some of the UK singles - the She Don't Use Jelly demos are a quite interesting set of taped snippets cut together on an acoustic or clean guitar. Put The Waterbug In The Policemans Ear is a frazzled gem of a song. Recorded on a ghetto blaster, this is a pseudo ballad featuring great piano work from Steven, violin noises from Ron and a quality wailing vocal from Wayne who introduces the song by telling the true story it's based upon. Marvellous.
